An Unofficial Ranking of the Top 5 Fictional Teachers

Here at SchoolInfo, we care about educators from all walks of life--even those from the fictional world of television and film. So we got to thinking, who are the top twenty made up teachers in history? Then we thought that list was a little long. So we thought, who are the top five made up teachers in history? Perfect, 5 is way easier than 20. So, this is what we came up with. I'm not saying this is the official list. I'm just saying that if you think otherwise, you are wrong and I will see you after class!

#5 Walter White: J.P. Wynne High School

Let's start off with a bang here. Depending on your interpretation of the show, Walter White could be many things. Yet, one thing will always ring true: Mr. White was one heck of a Chemistry Teacher. Maybe...a little too good? Again, that's totally up for you to decide. However, in this blogger's opinion, Walter would be a fantastic teacher to learn the periodic table of elements from.

#4 Ross Geller: NYU

Ok, sure. One could argue that Ross wasn't actually that great during his stint as a professor at New York University. What with the whole British accent fiasco and continuously being late or even missing the entire class. On the other hand, I think we can all relate to Professor Geller. He gave it his best, and always tried to do right by his students by relating to them on a personal level. Ross did that pretty well, if you know what I mean.

#3 Miss Frizzle: Walkerville Elementary

I know what you're thinking. That's a pretty decent ranking for a teacher who, almost daily, puts her students directly in harms way. But that's the sort of teaching that helps children succeed! Most of us, whether we admit it or not, need real hands-on learning experience in order to absorb knowledge in true depth. What's more hands-on than shrinking children down to the size of an antibody and then flying them up the nose of their sick classmate?

#2 Albus Dumbledore: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

dumbledore

To be quite honest, I don't believe we deserved Professor Dumbledore. Talk about a teacher who truly cared! Allowing his students to make their own mistakes and, more importantly, learn from them is always a characteristic of a great educator. Sure, you could argue that some of the lessons at Hogwarts were a bit dangerous. Unfortunately, that's the risk you take to become a great witch or wizard, just ask Harry.

#1 Dewey Finn: Horace Green Prep School

giphy (6)

You weren't expecting that for the top spot, were you? Sure, Dewey isn't technically a teacher. Or even a substitute teacher, for that matter. But what he lacks in credentials, he more than makes up for in astute knowledge of rock 'n roll! Dewey challenged his students to step outside of their comfort zones and stray away from the constraints of the idea that teens have to be perfect in order to succeed. Although they were completely robbed at the Battle of the Bands, the lesson learned was much greater than prize money. Rock on Mr. S, AKA, Dewey Finn. Rock on.

So there you have it. This list is not up for debate, and it will live on the internet forever. Head to our website to learn how SchoolInfo can supply the tools you need to be great just like all these fictional teachers. Spoiler alert: the tools we have do not include guitar shredding skills, witchcraft, wizardry, or any of the others mentioned in this blog.
